After the class debates that we had, where I personnaly don't think the mass media is that effective, I attempted to find something relevent to show that the mass media does not always get the better stories. It wasn't until the weekend that I was able to find such a story. This was partly due to the media coverage of thedeath and funeral of Sen. Edward Kennedy. But as I was trying to find a story, I happened to hear an audio clip on the "Neal Boortz " show, that was just perfect to show how the mass media is selective in what they choose to give to the people. The story is in regards to California Congresswoman Diane Watson, and in an speech to her constituents, trying to support the public option on health care reform, she praises and glorifies Fidel Castro down in cuba. Nor philisophically I absolutely disagree with the thought that the United States in any way should be moving toward a system such as that of cuba.

An interesting day for starting a blog.
Well, seeing as how we are wondering how much of a role the media plays in politics, all you have to do is turn on the television. On Sunday, while giving a speech in Colorado, President Obama referred to the Public Option, and said that the option was not extremely crucial for the bill that he wants to sign. Of course, depending on the way you feel about this topic, you might or might not agree with the public option. However, just the slightest thing said could change the way the media supports you or pushes against you to. Fox news has seemed to master the " anger the masses" technique. All day long, it seems that this was the only thing that was mentioned on their broadcasts. In their defense though, the opinions of those on the Fox News Channel, are more to the right of where Pres. Obama lies. But they are doing a remarkable job of tapping into the anger of the masses, none the less.
